Job DescriptionRole Summary

The Music Therapist provides mental health services to students with multiple disabilities in a full day classroom setting. Music therapy is specially designed to address the behavioral, psycho-social, emotional, communicative, physiological, sensory-motor, and cognitive needs of students.

Responsibilities
  • Provides individual/group therapy for children employing music therapy interventions & techniques.
  • Maintains up-to-date records of contact, including nature of intervention, periodic reports and termination summaries.
  • Consults with community and other Kennedy Krieger professionals as necessary.
  • Maintains positive communication in a professional demeanor with parents/guardians, agency representatives, administration and colleagues regarding student progress and concerns as needed.
  • Provides evaluations of children as necessary.
  • Participates in classroom team meetings, mental health team meetings, and IEP meetings as needed.
Qualifications
  • B.A. Music Therapy and/or B.A. in similar field with equivalency in Music Therapy
  • Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) by the Certification Board for Music Therapy (CBMT) or eligible for the Board Certification Exam. Certification must be obtained within six months of date of hire and maintained, thereafter.
  • Previous experience in music therapy is preferred.
