Job Summary

The RN Clinical Supervisor provides patient-centered, specialized, and evidence-based nursing care across the continuum through an inter-professional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. This role contributes to the goals of the department by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and ThedaCare policy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and unit-specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and develop a plan of care in a collaborative practice with the inter-professional team.
  • Monitor compliance with standards of care by observation, verbal reports, audits, and written documentation, with feedback loops to department leaders, providers, and team members.
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence and confidence and maintain composure during conflict. Serve with integrity and set a positive example at all times.
  • Provide input and support the department leaders in interviewing and hiring, appraisal performance, mentoring, motivating, coaching, and retention of team members.
  • Act strategically, understand and can manage change, and assist team members through transitions. Advocate for stakeholders to meet strategic goals, and assist team members in understanding how their day-to-day jobs contribute to organizational strategy.
  • Provide feedback to peers in a constructive manner, keep information confidential, and develop and maintain lateral, cross-boundary relationships.
  • Plan for the total care needs of the patient in collaboration with the inter-professional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the clinical specialty of assigned responsibility with the ability to perform all functions of the professional clinical nurse that are age appropriate and culturally specific.
  • Provide consultation and maintain positive relationships with physicians and other inter-professional team members, collaborating to problem solve and improve patient care.
  • Collaborate on department/clinic schedules, monitor staffing levels, and provide input to the budget preparation/monitoring and the identification of workload variability to predict and plan for appropriate staffing to enhance productivity/efficiency and maintain quality care.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or commitment to obtain BSN within five years for current ThedaCare RNs
  • Current Wisconsin RN license
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Three years of clinical experience
  • Two years of experience leading projects, a council/committee, and/or clinical improvement work.
Additional Requirements
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Work Environment
  • Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
  • Occasional high noise level in work environment
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
  • Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time
  • Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed
  • Occasional contact with aggressive and combative patients.
