POSITION SUMMARY
Under general oversight, the Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for driving a delivery vehicle to transport materials to various locations, including customer sites, while operating a crane or boom for the efficient loading and unloading of materials. This role involves the operation of crane or boom equipment mounted on delivery trucks, including the rigging, planning, and hoisting of diverse heavy construction materials. A valid CDL license is required for operating vehicles exceeding 26,001 pounds, along with certification as a crane or boom operator.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates delivery vehicle to transport products, materials, or supplies to designated locations and customer sites.
- Handles the loading and unloading of materials necessitating crane/boom operation through proper rigging, planning, and hoisting techniques.
- Assesses boom/crane capacities and weights, ensuring that clearances are maintained to prevent damage to structures, overhead wires, and the equipment itself.
- Calculates the weight of materials to ensure compliance with truck weight limits and DOT regulations.
- Addresses customer inquiries and resolves issues as necessary, while keeping supervisors informed of any outstanding matters related to deliveries, loading, and routing.
- Conducts inspections and maintenance of crane/boom equipment to uphold safety standards and prevent equipment damage.
- Keeps detailed logs of delivery activities, including weights and quantities of items, mileage, and delivery locations; verifies items against invoices or bills of lading.
- Inspects and maintains the delivery vehicle to ensure safety and adherence to regulatory requirements, reporting any maintenance issues to the supervisor.
- Plans and manages work efficiency to meet daily, weekly, or project-related productivity targets.
- Follows all safety protocols and practices to prevent injuries to self and others; participates in regular safety meetings and may suggest improvements to safety procedures.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY ROLE
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be successful in this role, candidates must be able to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with two (2) years of driving experience and at least one (1) year of experience operating a Boom or Crane, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
A valid CDL must be maintained at all times, and candidates must be at least 21 years of age. Certification as a Boom or Crane Operator is mandatory.

- Capability to read and interpret maps, routes, and road signage.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to apply common sense to execute route assignments.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding machinery and equipment diagrams.
- Basic math and measurement skills are essential.
- Must possess a valid CDL and comply with all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Must hold a Boom or Crane Operator certification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Work is conducted in a production environment, subject to temperature fluctuations, exposure to hazardous materials, mechanical components, elevated noise levels, and dust.
- Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 200 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to physically operate crane equipment, which includes climbing into and out of the cab, rotating the torso for full visibility, and using arms to control machinery.
