Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse - FLOAT

SUMMARY:


The nursing personnel engaged under this contract will execute responsibilities akin to those expected of military or government civil service nurses with comparable experience and in similar roles.

The Registered Nurses will report to and be accountable to the Nurse Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather, interpret, document, and communicate relevant patient information pertinent to care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Vigilantly monitor patients and take necessary actions as indicated by observed issues.
  • Properly and thoroughly follow established protocols in preparing patients for examinations, specialized tests, and surgical interventions.
  • Develop nursing diagnoses based on health status data by accurately interpreting assessment information and identifying patient problems related to surgical procedures.
  • Create a care plan that outlines nursing actions aimed at achieving patient objectives by prioritizing nursing interventions.
  • Ensure that patient procedures, treatments, and medications are administered in accordance with physician orders, sound nursing judgment, and applicable guidelines.
  • Administer medications accurately through various routes, including oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, and topical, while being aware of their effects on patients.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment for both patients and staff, adhering to CDC standard precautions during direct patient care.
  • Safeguard patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality and protecting patient information.
  • The nursing personnel are required to generate and maintain accurate medical records for beneficiaries receiving treatment, in accordance with applicable medical record administration guidelines.
  • Facilitate collaboration with all levels of healthcare management, including external agencies, and perform utilization management activities to optimize cost, quality, and access to care.
  • Ensure the availability of appropriate equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
  • Monitor and manage the environment, including temperature, sensory conditions, and cleanliness.
  • Document procedures, medication results, adverse effects from medical/surgical interventions, and unusual occurrences accurately in the patient's medical record.
  • Prepare accurate reports and statistics as required.
  • Interact with all personnel, patients, and family members with tact and diplomacy.
  • Conduct patient and family interviews, completing preoperative documentation, progress notes, and educational materials.
  • Manage prescriptions and enter lab and radiology orders in the relevant healthcare systems.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of other staff assigned to the PACU and Preoperative Clinic.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each shift, and that preventive maintenance is performed as directed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and employ safe work practices.
  • Utilize available information management systems in daily practice for patient care and administrative tasks.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
TRAVEL:


Contractors may be required to work at various duty locations within the healthcare system.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


This position involves prolonged periods of sitting, using hands and fingers, handling, reaching, speaking, and translating. It may also require walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting items weighing up to 30 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with significant computer usage may be necessary.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily conducted indoors at a military treatment facility, such as a clinic or hospital. The environment is typically air-conditioned, though conditions may vary. The role may require functioning in a fast-paced setting that demands quick thinking and rapid decision-making. Exposure to a variety of clients and potential health risks is expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • A current, active, full, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado or the ability to practice under a compact state license.
  • A valid nursing license with no limitations or pending actions.
  • Current certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • A minimum of two years of experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), or Emergency Room (ER) nursing within the last three years.
  • Successful completion of a medication competency test.
  • Completion of a competency-based orientation program.
  • Familiarity with various medical surgical equipment and current standards of care.
  • Compliance with health screening and immunization requirements.
  • Ability to obtain necessary security access and background checks.
  • Maintenance of all required documents and certifications for the position.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate constructively to diverse patients and staff.
  • A valid state driver’s license and insurability under the company’s automobile insurance policy.

  • Proactive measures to prevent patient discomfort and deterioration.
  • Orientation and mentoring of newly assigned nurses.
  • Operation and monitoring of therapeutic and emergency equipment.
  • Accurate documentation of patient care activities.
  • Preparation of patients for surgery, both physically and emotionally.
  • Awareness of patient rights.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS PACKAGE

  • Pay range: $40.00 to $45.41 per hour.
