Key Responsibilities

The Spiritual Care Provider is tasked with delivering spiritual support to hospice patients and their families.

• Exhibits an understanding of the distinction between various religious roles and that of a Spiritual Care Provider.

• Shows proficiency in offering spiritual care to individuals of diverse backgrounds, including various races, ages, genders, sexual orientations, social classes, and mental/emotional states.

• Provides spiritual support to individuals with differing beliefs by practicing cultural and spiritual humility.

• Demonstrates the ability for patients and caregivers to guide the spiritual dialogue, with the Spiritual Care Provider accompanying them on their spiritual journey, sharing personal beliefs only when requested.

• Possesses knowledge of a broad spectrum of spiritual resources to support individual belief systems, providing resources as necessary and connecting with other community religious leaders for referrals when appropriate.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Preferred: Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education or a Master's degree in theology, divinity, pastoral care, philosophy, religion, or a related field.
  • Required: Two units of Clinical Pastoral Education or a Bachelor's degree in theology, divinity, pastoral care, philosophy, religion, or a related field.
Experience:
  • Preferred: Two years of experience in hospice care.
  • Required: A minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare environment and/or related pastoral experience.
License Requirements:
  • Must provide documentation of current endorsement or acceptable credentials (licensing, ordination, etc.) in accordance with the applicant's spiritual/faith tradition, recognized by the Armed Forces Chaplains Board.
  • Must provide documentation confirming good standing with their spiritual/faith group, with no current or pending ethical charges.
Skill Requirements:
  • Ability to provide support to patients and families in crisis situations.
  • Exceptional verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to plan, organize, and exercise independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated openness, sensitivity, flexibility, and ecumenical spirit.
  • Current CPR certification, valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation or public transit.
