Role Overview

Peraton is in search of a Systems Administrator, Flight Ops to provide essential support for our Deep Space Network (DSN) program in collaboration with JPL and NASA.

The Deep Space Network represents NASA's extensive network of large radio antennas, facilitating communication with interplanetary spacecraft and providing critical radar and radio astronomy observations. This network is vital for the exploration of space, enabling the command of spacecraft and the reception of unprecedented images and scientific data, thereby enhancing our comprehension of the universe and our position within it.

As a Systems Administrator, you will work closely with JPL Design Engineers, local site engineers, and technicians to deliver Configuration Managed administrative and maintenance support at GDSCC. Your role will also involve remote assistance for MDSCC and CDSCC, ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the Global DSN. You will oversee hardware and software installations and upgrades across a diverse range of IT and OT systems that are crucial for the operational goals of the DSN.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer and support IT and OT systems on the GDSCC Flight & Facilities networks according to established Configuration Management protocols.
  • Offer technical assistance to site engineers and technicians for hardware and software installations on the Flight & Facilities networks.
  • Provide remote support for hardware and software challenges impacting MDSCC and CDSCC as necessary.
  • Assist in global downtimes for testing and implementing hardware and software upgrades for operational systems.
  • Support Systems Administration for COOP activities associated with JPL and GDSCC.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of Flight & Facilities systems to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance with NASA/JPL standards.
  • Prepare documentation and reports as requested by management.
  • Collaborate effectively with all levels of DSN personnel to maintain operational integrity of the DSN.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with a BS/BA; 0 years with an MS/MA; or 6 years without a degree.
  • Experience in a Space Flight Operations Center or Government Data Center.
  • Background in a collaborative software development environment.
  • Eligibility to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). U.S. Citizenship and proof of citizenship are required for clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Linux/Solaris Servers and Workstations.
  • Experience with PC/Windows Servers and Workstations.
  • Familiarity with Network Appliance Filer Servers.
  • Knowledge of Network Switches and Routers.
  • Advanced skills in Nutanix and Oracle System Administration.
  • Expertise in LDOM and Zones system administration.
  • Solid understanding of Linux and Windows system administration.
  • Basic knowledge of Apache/Tomcat Web Server.
  • Understanding of Java, XML, and HTML.
  • Experience with LDAP and FTP Server system administration.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Database.
  • Strong ability to write reports and deliver presentations to both customers and professional peers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of operating systems, including inter-process communication, device drivers, and file system concepts.
  • Solid grasp of networking and distributed computing environment principles.
  • Ability to program in administrative languages (e.g., Perl, Shell Scripts) and write basic C or C++ programs is advantageous.
