We are seeking a highly skilled Echocardiography Specialist to join our team at Keck Medicine of USC. As an integral part of our Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing multiple diagnostic non-invasive Cardiology procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Perform technically adequate Echocardiography according to policy and procedure in an acceptable amount of time.
- Work in conjunction with the Echo Cardiologist and Supervisor to ensure high-quality diagnostic images.
- Assist Anesthesiologists with the performance of Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) in the OR.
- Assist Cardiologists with the performance of Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) in the Intensive Care Units and in the Cath Lab.
- Assist Cardiologists with the performance of Intra Cardiac Echocardiography (ICE) in the Cath Lab.
- Participate in after-hours rotation of standby and call back as needed by the department.
- Respond to call-back requests in a timely manner.
- Report and document unusual or critical values to Attending Cardiologist in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Prepare accurate charge documents, maintain accurate and meaningful patient records, and document studies in Department Log Sheet in a timely manner.
- Use all equipment properly.
- Perform proper cleaning of laboratory equipment, including high-level disinfection of TEE probes.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Exercise sound judgment in relating physician orders to the actual condition and need of the patient.
- Consult with the Supervisor and Attending or Ordering Physician when indicated.
- Function as a patient advocate.
- Educate patient/patient's family about procedure and treatment.
- Provide for own professional growth regarding trends in equipment and procedures through formal and informal continuing education.
- Assist with transportation of patients or clerical functions as needed by the department.
- Participate in department Performance Improvement work team projects.
- High school or equivalent.
- Specialized/technical training: Completion of an accredited program related to sonography with emphasis on Echocardiography.
- 1 year experience in performing Echocardiagrams, Stress Echos, ECG's and other related diagnostic cardiac procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Echocardiography Credentialing: Must have an appropriate credential in echocardiography from the ARDMS, CCI or CARDUP.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City): If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
