QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required. Candidates for Title 1 Schools must meet Highly Qualified Status, which includes either an Associate's Degree or two years of college, a Bachelor’s degree, or Paraeducator II certification from the NH Department of Education.
ROLE OF THE SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPPORT ASSISTANT:
Instructional Support: Under the guidance of the classroom teacher, the Support Assistant aids in the execution and reinforcement of the educational curriculum, assists in preparing and administering assessments, and provides feedback to educators and school administrators regarding student progress.
Preschool Support: Collaborates with students in the classroom by designing and implementing age-appropriate educational activities.
Technical Support: Aids students in daily program operations by assisting with assignments and utilizing provided materials and technology. This includes roles such as Job Coach, Alternative Room, Science, Computer, Graphic Arts, and Health Occupation support.
Duties of the District Wide Special Education Support Assistant:
Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, the Support Assistant helps implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives that address educational, social-emotional, and behavioral needs, as well as fine and gross motor skills to promote student independence. Responsibilities may include assisting with physical and basic health needs of students, which could involve lifting, feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene.
