Position Overview

The East Whittier City School District provides elementary learners with diverse educational experiences, encompassing Music, Art, STEM, and Physical Education through our Broad Course of Study initiatives. Each instructor in this program will be tasked with delivering lessons across all grade levels, from Transitional Kindergarten to 5th grade, at various elementary schools within the district, following a designated timetable.

Key Responsibilities:

As a creative professional with a strong affinity for the arts and exceptional interpersonal skills, you will play a pivotal role in executing the District's Arts for All initiative. Your responsibilities will be conducted under the direct oversight of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Support Services or their representative.

Core Duties:
  • Oversee the formulation and management of the arts curriculum.
  • Administer a comprehensive art education program district-wide.
  • Facilitate curriculum development, professional training, and support for educators and administrators in a K-8 fine arts framework.
  • Guide the selection of educational materials and resources for the program.
  • Manage the procurement, inventory, and distribution of art supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in the design and execution of district-wide professional development for teaching staff.
  • Support the preparation and oversight of the program's financial plan under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Foster a robust base of community engagement and support.
  • Maintain and secure resources to ensure sustained financial and community backing for the arts initiatives.
  • Lead efforts in establishing a non-profit foundation to bolster the arts within the district.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a valid teaching credential and have substantial teaching experience, particularly in the arts. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in delivering professional development, possess knowledge of educational standards and curriculum frameworks, and exhibit excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for building and maintaining effective relationships with educators, students, community members, and administrative personnel.
