Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in our Emergency Room demonstrates exceptional clinical expertise by integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience in the care of assigned patients and families. Utilizing a systematic approach, the RN independently assesses, plans, and evaluates patients and families, providing nursing care that meets the highest standards of practice.

The successful candidate will prioritize nursing diagnoses, considering cultural, religious, and spiritual needs, and establish individualized plans-of-care that address the unique needs of each patient. With a focus on patient safety, the RN will recognize and intervene in situations that may compromise patient well-being.

Responsibilities:Clinical Skills and Knowledge:
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, addressing pathophysiologic and psychosocial needs.
  • Identify key nursing diagnoses from assessment data.
  • Prioritize nursing diagnoses, considering cultural, religious, and spiritual needs.
  • Establish individualized plans-of-care, including coordination with other disciplines.
  • Implement plans-of-care, adapting to changes in patient needs.
  • Evaluate outcomes of plans-of-care and alter as needed.
  • Recognize and intervene in situations related to patient safety.
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments based on patient needs and acuity.
  • Demonstrate ability to make effective nursing judgments.
  • Document patient progress legibly and in a timely manner.
Communication /Collaboration:
  • Advocate for patient well-being, respecting cultural, religious, and spiritual preferences.
  • Communicate patient data clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner.
  • Individualize communication based on patient and family assessment.
  • Identify and evaluate patient and family learning needs, abilities, and readiness to learn.
Management of Care/Leadership:
  • Delegate and supervise patient care appropriately.
  • Function as a charge nurse, assisting nurse manager in performance appraisals.
  • Participate in unit-based QI projects, initiating a unit-specific project related to clinical care.
  • Manage patient care within assigned time frames.
  • Actively participate in coordination of care on the unit, willing to float to other areas of the hospital.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • One year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current licensure in New York State as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Other certifications as required in specialty area.

Must possess excellent customer service skills, ability to communicate effectively verbally and written, and demonstrate ability to form effective working relationships with hospital personnel of all levels.
