Position Overview:


Under the guidance of departmental leadership and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Senior Respiratory Therapist exhibits a high level of expertise in respiratory care and designated patient care areas.

The Respiratory Therapist II provides proficient patient care through airway management, mechanical ventilation oversight, oxygen delivery, aerosol treatments, and respiratory interventions aimed at assessing, preventing, stabilizing, or addressing respiratory dysfunction in patients.


Key Responsibilities:


Administers comprehensive Respiratory Care services, including but not limited to aerosol medication administration, basic bedside pulmonary function assessments, breathing exercises, and oxygen therapy.

Ensures all aspects of airway management are addressed, including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy maintenance, tube changes, and endotracheal intubations.

May conduct Pulmonary Function Testing as required.


May be required to be on-call during various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.


Responsible for all facets of ventilator management, including setup and verification of ventilator function using specialized modes to effectively manage patient conditions.

Ensures appropriate monitoring of patients and applies suitable weaning techniques.


Maintains and enhances professional knowledge and skills, functioning independently with minimal oversight. Acts as a resource for other staff based on experience level.


Additional Information:

Educational Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required.

Note:

Current employees with an active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification by the NBRC and a minimum of 15 years of CRT experience, who are ineligible for the RRT board exam but demonstrate proficiency in all areas of respiratory care, also qualify for this position.


Depending on the population served, all employees must possess at least one of the following certifications based on their practice area: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for Adult Care, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) for NICU, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for PICU/Rex, Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT), or an advanced practice certificate for administering moderate sedation in the Bronchoscopy Lab.

All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body.


Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures. Proficient in documenting clinical information and effectively communicating with patients, physicians, family members, and other staff.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Capable of interpreting a wide variety of technical situations.
