Job Summary:
The Geriatric Nurse Specialist will serve as a liaison between physicians, patients, and their families in a clinical and administrative setting. This role will involve fielding phone calls, referring physicians, and communicating lab results and patient education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a plan of patient care.
- Provide patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures, and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
- Provide appropriate counsel and education to patients/families regarding disease process and symptom management.
- Maintain medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
- Consult with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Assist the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills, and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Maintain required skills and competencies and participate in educational programs, staff meetings, and in-services such as CPR as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
The Geriatric Nurse Specialist will work in a normal office environment with occasional exposure to blood-borne pathogens. The position requires protective devices and involves direct patient care.
Physical Effort:
The position typically involves sitting at a desk or table with repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement. Occasional lifting of 25 pounds or less may be required.
Equipment:
The position involves the use of office equipment and clinical/diagnostic equipment.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois depending on location in accordance with Compact Act.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Related medical experience.
- Skills in active listening, adaptability, customer empathy, detail-oriented, effective written communication, electronic health records, emergency situations, epic EHR, family support, general nursing, handling crisis situations, medication administration, nursing practice, oral communications, patient charting, patient education, prioritization, team collaboration, and vital signs.
Grade: S25
Salary Range: $56,000 - $96,100 per annum
