Job Summary

The University of Utah is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Report all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff members, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived lab tests as identified by department and report results to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with procedures, including suture removal, straight catheterization, and injections, under the supervision of licensed staff.
  • Monitor and maintain patient examination rooms, unit areas, and equipment, reporting outdated supplies and necessary equipment repairs.
  • Answer telephones, forward messages, and schedule appointments and procedures under the direction of licensed staff.
  • Assist with routine clerical functions, including filing medical information, locating charts, and entering charges for billing purposes.
  • Attend mandatory education sessions, including infection prevention and control, safety, CPR, and equipment usage, to maintain knowledge and skills.
  • May perform patient phlebotomy, apply leads and monitors, and assist with patient and family education, under the supervision of licensed staff.
  • May transport patients to ancillary departments or inpatient units, as directed by licensed staff.
  • May instruct in Basic Life Support (BLS) requirements and perform IV access, under the supervision of licensed staff.

Requirements

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • One of the following certifications: Advanced EMT, Paramedic, CMA, ABR-OE, RMA, NCMA, NHA, or NRCMA.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting, requiring the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull patients or objects, while providing patient care.
