Position Overview

The Specimen Collection Specialist is responsible for managing the inventory of collection materials at designated sites. This role involves the systematic collection, labeling, packaging, and transportation of biological specimens to the laboratory for analysis. The specialist will also be tasked with entering orders and retrieving toxicology results from the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Electronic Health Records (EHR). Collaboration with healthcare providers is essential to ensure appropriate patient screening intervals and to obtain necessary records from the Board of Pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain an adequate supply of specimen collection materials at assigned locations.
  • Collect and accurately label specimens for laboratory processing.
  • Package and transport specimens to the laboratory efficiently.
  • Input orders and access toxicology results from LIS and EHR systems.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers to confirm patient screening schedules.
  • Retrieve and manage records from the Board of Pharmacy as required.

Qualifications

Education:
  • A High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Completion of Junior College or Technical School is preferred.
  • Certification as a WV Clinical Laboratory Practitioner (POCT) is advantageous.
Experience:
  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • Up to one year of relevant experience is preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in a medical assistance role, demonstrating the ability to work effectively in a clinical environment.
