Principal Engineer in Marine Propulsion Systems

In the role of Senior Marine Applications Engineer at GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation, you will serve as the primary technical authority for our Marine Engines & Systems division. This pivotal position acts as the representative of GE Renewable Energy in all matters related to naval and marine gas turbine system technical solutions. You will be recognized as the definitive expert in gas turbine systems integration, interface management, installation design, product efficiency, life cycle cost analysis, marine fuel assessment, and equipment testing and certification for shipbuilders, marine clients, and naval architects.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Deliver expert technical guidance and formulate innovative solutions (configuration, performance assessment, maritime regulations, naval propulsion operations, etc.) during the capture process while collaborating with the commercial team.
- Oversee the technical evaluation of client requirements: defining and optimizing products; managing scope, schedule, industrial framework, and costs, while adhering to contract and internal policies. Perform calculations for plant, system, and equipment performance and efficiency. Document technical specifications and cost elements for subsequent contract execution phases.
- Collaborate with Marine systems engineers to devise tailored technical solutions that cater to the specific needs of the Customer's vessel and propulsion plant. Address topics such as unique interface requirements, non-standard performance expectations, compliance with military and commercial specifications, and integration concerns regarding intake, exhaust, and ventilation, as well as gas turbine auxiliary and support system integration.
- Guide the development and assessment of propulsion plant trade studies and provide technical responses for all Customer RFI's and RFPs in partnership with the Sales team.
- Act as a technical expert representing the Marine Engines & Systems division, providing professional or thought leadership within the industry. Influence policies both internally and externally and ensure effective delivery within your area of responsibility, collaborating with other organizational units.
- Recognize internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to enhance products, processes, or services. Leverage insights from industry trends to inform decision-making.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
- At least 5 years of engineering experience in maritime propulsion, gas turbine technology, maritime systems, and/or maritime customer engagement (commercial and/or military).
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- A Master's degree is preferred.
- Leadership experience in military or commercial ship projects.
- Strong background in Maritime Law.
- Subject Matter Expert in Marine Propulsion Systems.
- Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.
- Demonstrated capability to lead programs and projects effectively.
- Established project management expertise.
