Title: Head Coach for Girls Soccer
Division: Middle School, Upper School, or School-wide
Location: Making Waves Academy Richmond
Reports to: Athletic Director
Status: Seasonal
Compensation: A stipend is provided at an hourly rate based on experience
Role Summary
The Head Coach for Girls Soccer at Making Waves Academy is tasked with creating an inclusive and educational environment that enhances the athletic abilities of students while fostering their character development and team spirit. While competitiveness is encouraged, it is not the sole focus of this role.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management
- Practices: Organize, plan, and conduct practices, ensuring clear communication of schedules and expectations with players and their families.
- Games: Lead the team during games, exemplifying proper conduct and sportsmanship to players, officials, and spectators.
Logistical Coordination
- Equipment Management: Oversee the distribution and collection of uniforms and sports equipment.
- Transportation: Collaborate with the Athletic Director to arrange transportation for the team.
- Scheduling: Work with the Athletic Director to develop the game schedule, balancing academic and athletic commitments.
Team Environment
- Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere for all participants, emphasizing skill enhancement and personal growth.
- Encourage players to recognize how their athletic and personal skills will benefit them in future endeavors.
- Actively demonstrate essential skills during practices, engaging with players to facilitate learning.
Supervision Duties
- Ensure appropriate behavior among players during transportation on game days.
- Remain present after games and practices until all players have departed.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Trainer to address player injuries and promote safety.
Additional Expectations
Mission Alignment
- Exhibit understanding and support for Making Waves Academy's mission and values.
- Develop a Team Mission Statement and a Coaches' Purpose Statement to guide the program.
- Support other athletic programs within the department, fostering collaboration.
Other Responsibilities
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Work Environment
This seasonal role involves various settings, including sports fields and gyms, both on and off-campus.
Physical Requirements
Employees may need to walk, climb, bend, or stand for extended periods while fulfilling job duties.
Travel Requirements
Some travel may be necessary for events, including workshops or games.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Preferred experience coaching at a club or school level.
- Background in playing the sport at various competitive levels.
- Experience in coaching students.
- Familiarity with Restorative Justice principles.
- Understanding of relevant educational codes regarding student conduct.
Skills:
- Effective communication with students, families, and staff.
- Professionalism in all interactions.
- Organizational skills and goal-oriented mindset.
- Ability to build relationships within a diverse community.
- Capacity to uphold school policies and procedures.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Adaptability in fast-paced environments.
Education:
- Knowledge of the sport and experience in teaching it.
- Preferred college education to inspire students.
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
- CTC Fingerprint/Certificate of Clearance required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
