GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
As a Surgical Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting surgeons during surgical procedures, maintaining sterile environments, participating in infection control initiatives, monitoring surgical instruments and equipment, and preparing patients for surgery. A collaborative spirit and the ability to excel in a fast-paced setting are vital. CPR certification is a requirement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment for procedures
- Set up the operating room, ensuring all sterility protocols are followed
- Adhere to patient care regulations
- Conduct necessary pre-procedure preparations
- Perform safety checks on all surgical equipment
- Assemble both sterile and non-sterile instruments
- Assist in patient preparation and transportation
- Drape patients and provide instruments to surgeons during operations
- Participate in counts of sponges, needles, and instruments
- Assist with handling specimens and applying dressings
- Provide post-operative care and restock the operating room
- Support inventory management and quality assurance testing
- Carry out additional duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Ability to deliver age-appropriate care
- Strong communication abilities
- Effective interpersonal skills with patients and colleagues
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
This role involves working in well-equipped, well-lit, and well-ventilated surgical environments. It requires prolonged periods of standing and focus during surgical procedures. There may be exposure to communicable diseases and challenging conditions.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Evening and weekend shifts may occasionally be necessary.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program within the last 18 months
- CST certification is mandatory
- 1-2 years of experience in an operating room setting is preferred
- Basic Life Support certification is required
