Position: Childcare Assistant
General Purpose:
The Childcare Assistant is responsible for fostering a secure and supportive environment for children in care, ensuring their physical safety and emotional growth. This role involves part-time evening shifts dedicated to the care of children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Documentation: Accurately maintain records and documentation related to the children’s care and activities during shifts. Ensure all paperwork is completed before the end of each shift, including time sheets and daily logs.
- Supervision: Ensure a safe and supportive atmosphere for all residents by overseeing daily activities such as homework, meals, and recreational time. Conduct regular room checks and ensure cleanliness and safety in all areas.
- Household Duties: Responsible for meal preparation and maintaining cleanliness during shifts. Tasks may be assigned by the House Manager or Program Director.
- Transportation: Safely transport residents to and from school, medical appointments, and community activities using designated vehicles. Report any vehicle issues and maintain accurate logs of mileage and fuel receipts.
- Intake and Discharge Procedures: Assist with the intake and discharge processes under the guidance of the Executive Director or Program Director, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
- Medication Management: Supervise and document medication administration as per training and guidelines, ensuring all medications are stored securely.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with other staff members regarding resident needs and behaviors, reporting any incidents or concerns promptly.
- Additional Duties: Collaborate with colleagues to complete necessary paperwork, attend staff meetings, and engage in ongoing training and development.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent walking up and down stairs.
- Ability to accompany residents on outings.
- Driving a passenger van as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in childcare, education, or related fields.
- Minimum age of 26 years.
- Successful completion of background checks and drug testing.
Reports to: Shelter Program Director

Compensation: $12.50 per hour
