Job Summary
The Hamilton County Department of Education is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to serve as a Bus Attendant. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students during transportation on school buses.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist students with entering or exiting the bus in a safe and orderly manner.
- Seat students safely and ensure their belongings are secure.
- Monitor passengers at all times to ensure adherence to safety regulations and student conduct rules.
- Document and report any incidents or concerns to the appropriate authority.
- Physically assist students in evacuating the bus in case of an emergency.
- Ensure students take their belongings with them when leaving the bus.
- Assist the driver in maintaining a clean and presentable bus interior.
- Complete all required paperwork and submit it in a timely manner.
- Present a neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Attend all assigned training sessions.
- Act in a professional, respectful, and welcoming manner at all times.
- Provide quality services and support to students, parents, and school staff.
- Comply with district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Reinforce procedures and practices that result in efficient entry and exit of students on the bus.
- Assist students as needed and use positive strategies to redirect inappropriate behavior.
- Work collaboratively with administration, principals, secretaries, staff, and other stakeholders.
- Attend work and arrive on time.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Adhere to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
- Experience working with school-age students preferred.
- Excellent verbal communication skills to deal effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to read and write effectively.
