Job Description:
Role OverviewOur team at Planet Labs PBC is seeking an exceptional Propulsion Systems Engineer to support a variety of design, integration, and environmental testing activities at component, subsystem, and system levels.
- Design, develop, and test propulsion systems, including thrusters and power processing units (PPUs).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve desired results and ensure successful project delivery.
- Perform testing and implementation of modifications to propulsion system components.
- Liaise with vendors to manage procurement and selection of suitable components.
- Develop and maintain procedures for building ground support equipment and flight hardware.
You will be responsible for:
- Supporting the Acceptance, Testing, and Integration (AI&T) line of Planet Next satellite constellation.
- Coordinating and leading the execution of environmental test campaigns for propulsion systems.
- Participating in planning and coordination of test campaigns.
- Qualifying propulsion systems for flight.
- Providing functional and environmental testing support for high-energy thrusters (HETs) and PPUs.
- Developing and maintaining test fixtures and equipment.
- Maintaining the Environmental Lab.
- Designing and testing tools and equipment required for spacecraft launch integration.
- Supporting launch integration activities.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working with test equipment such as thermal air chambers, TVAC chambers, power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes.
- HET assembly and testing experience in high vacuum operating environments.
- Experience with operation of electric propulsion thrusters such as HETs.
- Able to juggle multiple tasks and make quality decisions without negative impact on others.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to achieve desired results.
- Experience with Engineering Documentation Control, G-Suite, Jira.
- Ability to travel within the United States and outside of the United States.
