Job Summary

Responsibilities
  • Administer respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities.
  • Interview patients and family members to obtain information about home environment, family relationships, health, and psychosocial history.
  • Read prescriptions, review patient information, and assess patient condition to administer respiratory therapy safely and effectively.
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment used in administration of respiratory therapy.
  • Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
  • Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.
  • Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assist patients in performing breathing exercises.
  • Perform pulmonary function tests to be used by physicians in diagnosis of cases.
  • Assist in C-sections and Bronchoscopies.
  • Respond to Rapid Response, Code Blue, and Trauma's in the ER.
  • Assist in Percutaneous Tracheotomies in ICU and Bedside Bronchoscopies.
  • Consult with physicians in the event of adverse reactions.
  • Maintain patient charts containing pertinent identifications and therapy information.
  • Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel.
  • Demonstrate ability in the care and handling of patients in all age groups, including consideration of special needs and behavior.
  • Assume responsibility as Lead when necessary, delegating workload to ensure no compromise to patient care.
Qualifications
  • Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current license as a Respiratory Therapist from the State of Oregon.
  • American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 60 days of hire.
