About the Job:

The State of Washington is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a full-time, permanent Dental Assistant position to join the Health Services team located at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton, WA.

This dental assistant position functions as a member of the Health Services Division assigned to Health Services and is responsible for performing dental assistant duties for the DOC Dentist in a Mobile Dental Clinic for incarcerated individuals at correctional facilities throughout the state.

The dental assistant is also responsible for adhering to the Department's policies, the WA State DOC Health Plan, and the DOC Dental Services' protocols and guidelines.

In doing so, this position contributes to improvement in patient health, which contributes to a reduction in criminal recidivism.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct chairside assisting with the following dental procedures: Oral Surgery, Prosthetics, remove cement around restorations; Capture and accurately label digital radiographs (periapical, bitewing, panoramic, occlusal, etc.).
  • Maintain the field of operation by skillful use of low and high-volume evacuator and three-way air water syringe.
  • Read instructions and understand how to use the products/materials being used for dental procedures.
  • Educate the patient in health behaviors including oral hygiene.
  • Inform the patient of the DOC policy regarding access to dental services and WA State DOC Health Plan.
  • Transport, setup, and maintain the Mobile Dental Clinic.
  • Stocks, monitors, and maintains dental equipment, dental supplies, inventory, and logs.
  • May be required to setup of the Mobile Dental Clinic upon arrival at the prison/work site to include leveling the clinic, deploying the stairs, extending the awning as necessary, connecting the vehicle to facility fresh water, plugging the vehicle into shore power, and operating the generator.

Requirements:

  • Must be a certified Dental Assistant in the State of Washington.
  • Must have an unblemished/unrestricted registration to practice dental assisting with WA State Department of Health.
  • Maintain current CPR certification and ensure that proof of current status is provided annually to facility clinical leadership.
  • Ability to successfully complete specialized training provided through Mission Mobile Medical related to operation and maintenance of the Mobile Dental Clinic within 6 months of hiring.
  • Must comply with health screening requirements by undergoing tuberculosis testing and other appropriate related procedures unless exempt by State.
  • Two years experience as a dental assistant.
  • Experience and/or education in working with medical/dental documents and using medical/dental terminology.
  • Experience providing dental services in a correctional environment or full-service community health clinic.
  • Knowledge in the areas of scheduling routine/special dental procedures and patient visits.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications and related technologies.
