POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Practice Management, Practice Managers, Providers, and Office Coordinators, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will play a vital role in patient assessment and care. This position involves maintaining accurate documentation, ensuring the clinical area is well-organized, and executing various clinical procedures.
The LPN is committed to delivering exceptional service that enhances the patient and family experience, demonstrating a strong understanding of patient and family-centered care.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports To:
Director of Practice Management, Practice Managers, Providers, and Office Coordinators.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Collaborative Relationships:
Work closely with MMA Administration, Providers, office personnel, and patients, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct nursing assessments relevant to the patient's chief complaint, including vital signs and other necessary measurements, documenting findings accurately and notifying the physician of any significant abnormalities.
- Review and document the patient's medication history during each visit.
- Prepare patients physically and emotionally for examinations and procedures, providing appropriate explanations and reassurance.
- Deliver patient education tailored to identified needs, covering topics such as diagnoses, procedures, and home care.
- Operate within the scope of education and established practice policies and procedures.
- Order and manage clinical supplies, ensuring adequate inventory levels.
- Maintain equipment functionality through regular cleaning and adherence to manufacturer guidelines.
- Exhibit knowledge of sterile techniques and universal precautions as necessary.
- Perform laboratory tests as requested and ensure proper follow-up.
- Welcome patients and escort them to the examination area.
- Conduct the history and physical assessment of patients, documenting findings appropriately.
- Assist physicians with procedures as directed.
- Prepare and sanitize the patient area as needed, ensuring equipment is set up correctly.
- Administer and document medications as prescribed by the physician.
- Support patient discharge processes.
- Triaging patient inquiries via phone, coordinating with physicians as necessary, and documenting interactions.
- Manage prescription calls to pharmacies, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Maintain necessary supplies and medications for daily operations.
- Ensure completion of patient consent forms for required procedures.
- Exhibit professionalism in communication with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Log sample medications according to established policies.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive medical records system in accordance with protocols.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and uphold patient privacy rights. Contribute to the development of policies and procedures while assisting in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients and colleagues.
- Demonstrate adaptability in response to changes in workload, staffing, and scheduling.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Practice Manager or Physician.
Ensure a safe environment by adhering to patient safety protocols and demonstrating effective use of equipment and technology.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a current LPN license is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in general medicine/surgery, working with diverse patient populations is required.
