Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill part-time student Food Service positions for Oregon State University's University Housing and Dining Services. The positions will be working in one of three dining centers or catering. Dining Position:

  • Must provide exceptional customer service.
  • Assist customers and answer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, allergens, and current prices.
  • Learns to cook and prepare menu items using raw products and meats as well as most common food allergens.
  • Learns to use food service equipment.
  • Portion, assemble and serve menu items to order, including special diet items.
  • Makes beverages and stocks products and/or ingredients.
  • Operates cash registers and processes transactions.
  • Restocks guest items and maintains cleanliness of work area, serving area, and dining room.
  • Helps in all tasks related to the preparation, service, storage, and transportation of hot and cold foods.
  • Assists in dish washing, equipment sanitation, and frequent cleaning tasks.
  • May be reassigned to assist in other work areas.
  • This position typically has a consistent schedule each term.

Catering Position:

  • Gathers equipment, food, and beverage for a catering event.
  • Delivers to the specified location on or off-campus.
  • Meets event deadlines while ensuring food quality and safety.
  • May require early or late work shifts.
  • Driving a Catering vehicle can be an essential part of the job.
  • The schedule for this position varies based on event needs.
  • May require accessing secured residence halls and storage areas.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements.
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard.

Additional Required Qualifications



  • Must obtain a valid Oregon Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to understand written and verbal instruction.
  • Some positions are designated as critical or security-sensitive positions.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Students are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
  • Available shifts will vary.
  • Consistent attendance is crucial for stability and day-to-day business needs.
  • Must follow schedule and be on time.
  • May require walking, standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
