The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role within a specialized healthcare team, focusing on delivering exceptional patient care in a gastroenterology setting. This position involves assisting with medical procedures and actively participating in the planning and execution of care strategies, all while ensuring a safe and professional environment for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients warmly and escort them to examination rooms.
- Preparation: Prepare patients for examinations and medical procedures, ensuring they are comfortable and informed.
- Communication: Clearly explain treatment protocols, medication regimens, dietary guidelines, and physician instructions to patients.
- Medical Administration: Administer medications, including injections and IV therapy, in accordance with licensure standards.
- Basic Care: Provide essential patient care services, such as wound dressing, catheterization, and application of compresses.
- Specimen Handling: Collect, label, and process medical specimens with accuracy.
- Room Maintenance: Ensure medical treatment rooms are clean and prepared for patient visits.
- Equipment Management: Assemble and utilize medical equipment specific to gastroenterology practices.
- Appointment Scheduling: Coordinate follow-up appointments for patients as necessary.
- Communication of Delays: Effectively inform patients of any delays in their appointments.
Documentation:
- Accurately enter patient information into electronic systems in a timely manner.
- Manage the physician's administrative tasks efficiently.
Administrative Support:
- Assist with clerical duties, including appointment scheduling, procedure bookings, and obtaining necessary pre-authorizations.
- Oversee medical inventory and supply ordering based on established levels.
- Work under the supervision of a physician or Registered Nurse.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited LPN program.
- Current LPN licensure in the state of New York and/or Connecticut.
- Preferred skills in IV therapy and phlebotomy.
- Completion of competency assessments within the first three months of employment.
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage based on experience and qualifications.
