Medical Laboratory Technician

The Medical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of testing and procedures in the laboratory, including phlebotomy, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, coagulation, serology, microbiology, blood gases, and electrocardiograms. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities- Perform testing and procedures in all areas of the laboratory, including phlebotomy, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, coagulation, serology, microbiology, blood gases, and electrocardiograms.
- Report lab results in a timely manner and notify practitioners or nursing staff of critical values.
- Perform preventative maintenance on instrumentation and quality control as indicated in policies or external agency regulations.
- Utilize supplies and reagents in a non-wasteful manner and adhere to JMHS policies and practices.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, and physician information.
- Communicate concerns, developments, plans, and objectives to the supervisor on a continual basis.
- Completion of MLT or CLT program or HEW Certification or Associate degree in laboratory science or equivalent.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, good organizational skills, and knowledge of external rules and regulations that affect laboratory service.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and perform duties in an independent manner.
The Medical Laboratory Technician will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as standing, bending, and moving. The ability to lift up to 15 pounds is required. The technician may be exposed to patients with infectious diseases and must be able to complete assignments in all types of weather and ever-changing environments.
