Position Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Crisis Respite Support Specialist is responsible for overseeing and assisting clients enrolled in the Crisis Respite Program. This role involves responding to requests for client monitoring from the Emergency Response Team at designated Respite facilities. The Respite Staff will collaborate in pairs to ensure comprehensive supervision and support for clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and monitor clients at assigned Respite facilities who have been evaluated by the Emergency Response Team or clinical personnel and qualify for Respite care.
  • Provide necessary supervision during transportation by the Emergency Response Team or clinical staff to and from the facility, office, or other relevant activities. This may also involve accompanying clients on foot for short distances.
  • Assist in meal preparation and ensure nutritional needs are met for residents of the Respite facility.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the Respite facility in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Offer supportive companionship and utilize Mental Health First Aid and other counseling techniques to assist residents in the Respite program.
  • Communicate regularly with the Emergency Response Team and clinical staff regarding the client's progress and Respite Care Plan.
  • Facilitate the Respite Care Plan with clients, under the guidance of the Emergency Response Team and clinical staff, which may include assisting with case management and connecting clients to community resources.
  • Monitor and document client self-administered medications.
  • Keep a detailed log of all significant activities during the client's stay in the Respite program.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development activities as assigned by the organization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree in a human services-related field is preferred.
  • Completion of all pre-service training and Respite Orientation is mandatory before providing client care.
  • Must complete HIPAA training and undergo a criminal background check.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to effectively engage with diverse populations, maintaining appropriate boundaries while fostering independence.
  • Competence in serving a wide range of clients, including those from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Understanding of cultural considerations that may impact service delivery.
  • Familiarity with community resources, social security, and disability programs is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in updating client records and completing necessary documentation promptly.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and word processing.
  • Willingness to work on-call hours as required.
  • Ability to travel within the service area as needed.
  • Commitment to ongoing skill development to effectively serve individuals from diverse backgrounds.
