Position Overview for Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation operates under the guidance of the Nursing Supervisor or Provider, delivering essential care to patients. Key responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations, monitoring vital signs, administering prescribed medications, and coordinating appointment schedules. LPNs are expected to possess strong customer service abilities and comply with the professional standards established by the Illinois Board of Nursing.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Support healthcare providers during patient consultations, including measuring vital signs and conducting point-of-care tests.
  • Administer medications according to physician directives and ensure thorough medication reconciliation.
  • Manage appointment scheduling, follow up on no-shows, and oversee hospital discharge processes.
  • Handle incoming calls, communicate messages to healthcare providers, and address patient inquiries.
  • Obtain necessary prior authorizations from insurance entities for medications and services.
  • Assist in training new staff and students, and facilitate referrals to community resources.
  • Maintain precise patient documentation while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Pursue opportunities for professional development and contribute to quality improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and uphold a positive approach to patient care.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Effective communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Proficient understanding of medical terminology and computer applications.

Educational Background:

Applicants must have completed an accredited LPN program and hold a valid license in Illinois. CPR certification is mandatory. Experience in ambulatory care is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This role involves light physical activity with non-strenuous daily tasks. Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedule:

Standard work hours are Monday to Friday during the day shift, unless otherwise indicated. Compliance with applicable State and Federal regulations is essential.
