Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization.
  • Monitor and trend the cost-effectiveness of the position, particularly as it relates to efficiency and performance indicators.
  • Assist in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies.
  • Use evidence-based healthcare literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes.
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals.
  • Maintain current expertise in area of practice.
  • Promote own professional growth and development in clinical and managerial role.
  • Consider needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care.
  • Evaluate treatment and healthcare plans for effectiveness and modify per clinical standards and practice protocols.
  • Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws.
  • Prescribe medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
  • Prescribe inpatient and discharge medication according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization.
  • Work collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care.
  • Formulate the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient, and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay.
  • Order customary laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies per practice protocol.
  • Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated practice or clinical unit.
  • Function as a respectful member of the healthcare team.
  • Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the organization Service Standards and incorporate them into the performance of responsibilities.
  • Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for patient care in the hospital setting.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing leadership to ensure timely communications with the nursing staff.
  • Participate in the development and revision of interdisciplinary and nursing standards, patient and family education materials as relevant to area of practice and expertise.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor or designee.

Requirements

  • A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED).
  • Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED.
  • Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strongly prefer National Board Certification in specialty in which you are assigned.
