Cartographer Assistant

As a Junior Cartographer, you will play a critical role in supporting our team in Springfield, VA. Your responsibilities will include:

• Source evaluation of rasterized nautical charts, ENC, digital hydrographic survey data, Notices to Mariners (NtM), orthorectified imagery, chart catalogs, and various Open Source or government-furnished data sets to produce project packages for In-House or contract production.
• Compiling or updating maritime features and attributes for the SFH DNC/ENC portfolio on ArcGIS-based Data Capture and Finishing Environment (DCAFE) workstations or ESRI-based Foundation GEOINT Modernization (FG MOD) production environment workstations.
• Extracting features from various sources, including rasterized nautical charts, ENC, digital hydrographic survey data, NtM, orthorectified imagery, and chart catalogs.
• Writing Python scripts in ArcGIS to improve the efficiency of the production process.
• Data conversion/migration.

Requirements include:

• A minimum of 1 year of experience with each of the following areas: demonstrated cartographic finishing, feature extraction from maps, charts, or various imagery sources, attribution population, and experience using ESRI ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro.
• Demonstrated experience loading raster and vector files for viewing/reviewing multiple overlapping data sets.
• A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications include experience creating, editing, and manipulating shapefiles, geodatabases, and features, as well as exporting data in multiple formats. Knowledge of generalization rules, experience using imagery for nautical chart compilation, and experience combining digital cartography, computer technology, GIS, cartographic, and geospatial production techniques are also desirable.

Clearance requirements include an active TS/SCI. Physical requirements include the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasional movement to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers.
