Overview:


The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is accountable for delivering pulmonary care to a diverse range of patients, including those who are critically ill, non-critical, and chronically ill, across adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations, all under the supervision of a physician.

This role involves conducting thorough patient evaluations and implementing tailored respiratory care strategies. The RRT will execute various technical and diagnostic procedures related to respiratory therapy throughout the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the established OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Responding to emergency situations (Code Blue and White);
  • Managing airways, including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning;
  • Administering aerosolized medications;
  • Overseeing ventilator operations and setup;
  • Ensuring oral hygiene for patients;
  • Placing and maintaining airway retention devices;
  • Managing airway support devices such as BiPAP and CPAP;
  • Delivering oxygen therapy and monitoring therapeutic responses;
  • Analyzing chest radiographs;
  • Collecting and interpreting blood gas samples;
  • Conducting EKG assessments;
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive documentation;
  • Cleaning and replenishing equipment and supplies as required;
  • Participating in CAP and JC evaluations;
  • Serving as Shift Leader or Team Leader when necessary.

Advanced Skills May Include:

  • Managing and monitoring therapeutic gases, including INO and HeO2;
  • Conducting Pulmonary Function Tests;
  • Assisting in bronchoscopy procedures;
  • Performing hemodynamic monitoring;
  • Analyzing waveform data;
  • Evaluating nocturnal SpO2 levels (Desaturation Studies);
  • Conducting polysomnography;
  • Carrying out transport responsibilities.

Qualifications:
Refer to licensure and/or certification prerequisites

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience is preferred.
RT or RCP License in the state of employment is mandatory.
BLS certification is required.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from NBRC is essential.
