Specimen Processor

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a skilled Specimen Processor to join our Laboratory team in a full-time status. This role requires working variable hours, including weekend and holiday rotations.
Key Responsibilities:- Receive, sort, and prioritize specimens according to laboratory policies.
- Verify patient specimens with requisitions or labels, ensuring accurate information.
- Enter specimen receive time into the computer system and answer telephone inquiries.
- Follow health and safety regulations for handling biohazardous patient samples or sharps.
- Disinfect work areas and participate in the orientation and training of new laboratory specimen processors.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Three to six months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or other medical environment, including knowledge of Medical Terminology and Laboratory Information systems.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
