Job Title: Special Education Personal Care Assistant LSS

Join the Moon Area School District team as a Special Education Personal Care Assistant LSS. This role is responsible for providing support to students with special needs, assisting with daily living skills, and working collaboratively with teachers and other staff members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group assistance to students with special needs, implementing strategies as indicated in their IEP/Positive Behavior Support Plan.
  • Assist students with disabilities as directed by classroom teachers or administrators, reinforcing skills introduced by the classroom teacher.
  • Support students with identified needs for self-help or self-care/personal hygiene skills, such as toileting, diapering, dressing, feeding, and other personal care needs as designated in the IEP.
  • Assist students in the use of Assistive Technology (AT) as prescribed by the IEP team.
  • Monitor, supervise, and assist students throughout the day in the classroom, lunch, field trips, assemblies, from class to class, bathroom, recess, therapies, regular education classes, and transportation if applicable.
  • Assist teachers by directing the movement of regular and special needs students during emergency drills, assemblies, and special classes.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the building principal or classroom teacher.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree or higher; or must have completed at least two (2) years of postsecondary study, or qualified status via the PDE Paraeducator Credential of Competency.
  • Ability to work with children.
  • Demonstrate aptitude for the tasks involved and proficiency to excel on the district-administered test.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Products and other office equipment or software.
Working Conditions:

This role requires working in a diverse environment and flexibility to handle changing priorities. The successful candidate will be able to prioritize identified needs of students by following directives of classroom teachers, staff, and peers, as well as the goals of the IEP.
