We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced librarian to join our team as a Librarian for Asian Studies at Penn State University Libraries. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison to the Department of Asian Studies and the College of Liberal Arts, providing expert guidance and support to students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities:- Serve as a subject expert for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, and South Asia Studies, Asian Studies, and Asian American Studies.
- Develop and maintain resources in multiple formats, including monographs, serials, electronic resources, databases, and multimedia.
- Provide reference assistance and research consulting at all levels, both face-to-face and online.
- Initiate and conduct course-related and general information literacy instruction.
- Collaborate with librarians in related subject areas and libraries to develop collaborative collections.
- Contribute to the advancement of Penn State University Libraries' programs for scholarly communication, open access, and open educational resources.
- Participate in the Ask-a-Librarian online reference service and provide reference and research support to students, faculty members, staff, and visiting scholars.
- Engage in research, scholarly publication, and professional service activities in areas appropriate to academic librarianship and the disciplines served.
- Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school and/or advanced degree in a relevant academic discipline.
- Academic background, professional experience, or other contributions demonstrating expertise in Asian Studies or a related field.
- Proficiency (written and spoken) in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
- Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace.
- Experience working in an academic library.
- Knowledge of collection development and methods for increasing diversity and equity in library collections and services.
- Experience designing and delivering outreach and information literacy instruction in person and online.
- Experience working with multicultural and/or international student groups.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
