Job Description:

The Radiology Technologist position at Mercy Health involves working under the supervision of an authorized user to apply diagnostic imaging principles and techniques using ionizing radiation safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and document patient clinical history and lab work for licensed practitioners' use.
  • Position and immobilize patients to best demonstrate anatomical areas of interest while considering patient comfort and abilities.
  • Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure for patients, self, and others.
  • Perform radiographic procedures by selecting and operating imaging equipment, along with associated accessories, to successfully complete tasks.
  • Verify informed consent and complete pre and post-procedure documentation.
  • Assist licensed practitioners with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures, applying appropriate aseptic surgical techniques as needed.
  • Participate in timeout procedures according to policy.
  • Identify, prepare, and administer medications/contrast as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
  • Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in patients' medical records.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality.
  • Document patient dose exposures.
  • Interact professionally with physicians, technologists, physician offices, hospital staff, patient family members, and patients.
  • Operate radiographic equipment and accessories according to ALARA principles.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Associate's degree from an ARRT-accredited institute (preferred).
  • Certification and Registration with ARRT (required) and State Licensure (preferred, unless required by state).
  • BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (required for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH).
  • Experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred), along with knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (RIS).
