Aerospace Systems Engineer Lead

Job Overview
The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a seasoned Aerospace Systems Engineer Lead for its small satellite programs. In this role, you will be responsible for spearheading the technical aspects of the project, collaborating with the Project Manager, and ensuring that all technical requirements and performance standards are met.
About the Role
- You will work closely with the Project Manager to lead the team and deliver the final product, mitigating risks while ensuring that requirements are satisfied and verified.
- Your expertise in systems engineering principles, such as technical leadership, requirements management, configuration control, interface management, verification, etc., will be essential in driving the success of the project.
- As an experienced professional, you will provide technical oversight of contractor requirements and development efforts, develop recommendations regarding risk reduction and future performance, and maintain technical relationships with internal and external customers, technical staff, and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cross-organizational project teams and mentor staff to ensure successful project delivery.
- Conduct trade studies, design analyses, and engineering analyses/studies to identify and resolve issues impacting SDL programs and systems.
- Effectively communicate technical results, both verbally and in writing, to various stakeholders.
- Develop and implement technical strategies to drive project success and improve processes.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related technical field, such as aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering, with coursework in space engineering.
- At least 7 years of experience in industry, with a minimum of 2-5 years of experience working on similar projects or in similar roles.
- Proven track record of leading teams and delivering complex projects, with excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including technical leadership, requirements management, configuration control, interface management, and verification.
- Familiarity with orbital mechanics, spacecraft requirements, and subsystems design, as well as experience with developing technical budgets for small satellites.
- Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance.
