ESL Teacher

We are seeking a highly qualified ESL Teacher to join our team at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. The successful candidate will provide English as a Second Language instruction to English language learners in kindergarten through 12th grade, enrolled in contracting school districts in and near Allegheny County.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement daily lesson plans that provide sound educational and language developing academic achievement for students based on the ELP Standards and state academic standards.
• Track student progress and maintain accurate records of student language proficiency levels.
• Collaborate with content area teachers to ensure effective instruction and support for English language learners.
• Communicate with parents/guardians concerning student progress and provide support and information to help students adjust to and become integrated into their new culture.
• Participate in staff development and actively seek and develop effective approaches to instruction through the application of best practices in pedagogy.

Requirements

• Valid PA ESL Program Specialist certificate required.
• Valid PA certificate in Elementary K-6 and either English 7-12 or Communications 7-12, or Reading Specialist K-12 required.
• Experience teaching ESL and/or experience teaching at the elementary or secondary level or teaching English preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and ability to work with limited supervision.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.
• Ability and experience working as a member of a team.
• Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.

Working Conditions

This is a regular full-time day job with a standard schedule. The successful candidate will be required to work in a variety of school settings and may be required to travel to different locations.
