Job Title: Software Design Lead

At Mindlance, we are seeking a highly skilled Software Design Lead to join our team. As a trusted analytical and technical design lead, you will set design standards, provide design guidance to developers, and interface with requirements, QA, and solution/enterprise architects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for design standards and governing adherence by delivery partners
  • Ensure all design artifacts are properly reviewed for quality
  • Responsible for code deliverables and hands-on coding, setting the template for others to follow
  • Partner with requirements team to understand expected functional and non-functional behavior and verify proposed solution designs meet these requirements
  • Provide design artifacts such as UML diagrams, design patterns, and technical design documents and review solution architecture documents from the solution architecture team
  • Work with solution architects to understand software architecture guidelines and approved design patterns
  • Escalate design issues and risks to the scrum master
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure designs are properly implemented
  • Work with QA teams to understand solution design and related deliverables
  • Partner with QA to identify optimal test strategy, approach, and plan, and represent GSED in defect triage sessions
  • Provide impact assessment for change management
  • Participate in warranty defect triage sessions to ensure design impacts are considered
Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of key stakeholders, mobilize and motivate software engineering teams, set technical direction and approach, resolve conflict, deliver tough messages with grace, execute with limited information and ambiguity
  • Experience with UML and other current design notations
  • Knowledge of design patterns (e.g. Gang of 4) and enterprise integration patterns
  • Ability to navigate matrixed organizations effectively
  • Results-oriented, diligent, and works with a sense of urgency
  • Assertive, responsible for his/her own work (self-directed), have a strong affinity for defining work in deliverables, and be willing to commit to deadlines
  • Ability to identify and implement required actions quickly in order to accomplish goals, eliminate roadblocks, and create focus
  • Posses knowledge and expertise in the use of various delivery methodologies (waterfall and iterative) and have a clear understanding of human resources policies/practices and change management techniques
  • Influential, focused, and versatile team player that is comfortable under pressure
  • Ability to communicate at all levels with clarity, poise, maturity, and precision both written and verbally
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; balancing strategic alignment with technology roadmap and emerging industry trends with practical delivery
  • Knowledge and experience in Group Insurance (Disability, Life, and Accident), particularly claims management, a plus
