Job Summary

The Transportation Support Professional will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students with diverse needs while on a school bus. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt to different situations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Student Safety and Support: Assist students with disabilities, special needs, or other requirements to safely board and exit the bus, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
  2. Equipment Management: Secure special equipment, such as car seats and wheelchairs, to the bus, and operate wheelchair lifts and other specialized equipment as needed.
  3. Medical Support: Monitor students with medical needs, such as feeding tubes, tracheotomies, and oxygen, to ensure their equipment is functioning properly and is secured.
  4. Communication and Reporting: Report any unusual or changed behavior to the driver, school staff, and parents, and maintain open communication with all stakeholders.
  5. Student Release and Pickup: Ensure that early childhood, PEEP, and kindergarten students are released to authorized individuals.
  6. Professional Development: Stay up-to-date on different disabilities and special needs, such as autism, ED, DD, LD, and adapt to new situations as needed.
  7. Emergency Procedures: Assist drivers in safely evacuating students with special needs in emergency situations.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certifications: First aid and CPR certification required, or ability to become certified.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to maintain student discipline, interact with students, parents, and faculty in a positive manner, and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to learn and adapt to different special education categories and situations.
  • Valid Driver's License: Valid Virginia driver's license required.
