Audiology Specialist Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Audiology Specialist to join our team at Coastal Ear Nose & Throat LLC. As an Audiology Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting audiological evaluations, including impedance measures, air/bone conduction testing, speech reduction thresholds, pure tone thresholds, and word discrimination testing.
Responsibilities:
- Discuss hearing complaints with patients and their families
- Takes a complete patient history, based on the ability of the patient/family
- Conducts audiological evaluations, including impedance measures, air/bone conduction testing, speech reduction thresholds, pure tone thresholds, and word discrimination testing
- Determines speech discrimination scores, performed at suprathreshold levels to determine rollover affect
- Adjusts test procedures/protocols based on patient age and test ability
- Performs otoacoustic emissions testing, as deemed necessary by complaint/history/age/ability of patient
- Prepares complete audiology reports for referring physicians
- Provides hearing aid counseling, including discussing hearing test results and needs for amplification with patients and their families
- Explains benefits of personal amplification and discusses various hearing aid options and recommends the best option for the patient
- Makes ear mold impressions when patients decide on amplification
- Orders appropriate hearing aids/ear molds
- Maintains chart notes and paperwork subsequent to each visit
- Performs hearing aid fittings/orientations, including taking ear mold impressions and checking the fit of ear molds
- Programs/adjusts trim pots as needed to find tune hearing aids to patient satisfaction and appropriate response
- Instructs patients and their families on the care of hearing aids/batteries
- Issues instruction material and battery warnings
- Instructs patients or their families on the use of hearing aids; counsels patients and their families on the benefits of amplification and how to improve the patient's listening environment
- Verifies completion of orientation with a checklist
- Discusses contracts and obtains acceptance signatures and ordering deposits
- Schedules follow-up appointments
- Checks hearing aids for defects, etc.
- Cleans hearing aids as required
- Analyzes hearing aid problems perceived by patients
- Repairs aids or returns them to the manufacturer for repair
- Outlines estimated repair costs to families/patients
- Maintains audiological education literature
- Maintains audiology supply inventory
- Reports lists of needed supplies; orders supplies upon manager's approval
- Meets with physicians regularly to discuss patient care issues
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Attends team and staff meetings
