Immigration Attorney with Community Focus

At Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, we are seeking an Immigration Staff Attorney to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of indigent and low-income immigrants and their families.
Job Description:
This position provides legal assistance to individuals navigating the complex world of immigration law. As an Immigration Staff Attorney, you will provide consultation and representation in family-based cases, removal defense, and humanitarian-based immigration matters before USCIS, EOIR, state courts, and other venues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Casework: Provide comprehensive client intakes, offering advice, referrals, and evaluating cases for representation. Maintain a diverse caseload representing clients in relative petitions, inadmissibility waivers, removal defense, asylum, U and T visas, VAWA, naturalization applications, and form completion or document replacement.
- Community Outreach: Coordinate outreach and educational workshops for the immigrant community and the public on immigration issues and law. Present to and train community groups and other service providers.
- Social Impact: Assist in supervising volunteers and student interns, developing strategic relationships with allies, and participating in meetings to advance program goals.
- Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; Juris Doctor degree preferred.
- Admitted to the Massachusetts bar.
- Knowledge of immigration law and experience working in an immigration legal setting.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks in a high-volume environment.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management, and internet research.
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
Work Environment: This role operates in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Compensation: The estimated annual salary for this position is $65,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
