Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Endocrinologist, under the guidance of the Medical Director, plays a pivotal role in diagnosing and managing endocrine disorders, providing education and support, and ensuring comprehensive healthcare for patients at Unity Health Care. This role demands a high level of expertise, clinical judgment, and creativity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a primary resource for Unity patients in diagnosing and managing endocrine conditions, particularly diabetes.
  • Contribute to the development of a population health strategy for managing diabetes among Unity's patient base.
  • Conduct thorough physical assessments and evaluations as necessary.
  • Identify required tests, order them, and interpret clinical and laboratory findings.
  • Formulate diagnoses and recommend treatment plans, including:

a. Medications;

b. Nursing requirements;

c. Counseling services;

d. Nutritional guidance, etc.

  • Provide expert consultation to primary care providers regarding optimal diabetes management practices.
  • Promote health maintenance through preventive care and health counseling.
  • Assist patients and the care team in acquiring necessary therapeutic interventions and devices for diabetes management.
  • Perform additional medical services as required.
  • Participate in the education of residents and medical students.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training programs, including conferences related to patient care.
  • Contribute to the Quality Improvement Committee or other relevant committees as needed.

CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH

Work closely with the Medical Director, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Medical Assistants, Dentists, and other healthcare professionals, as well as Unity Health Care patients and various healthcare agencies and hospitals in the area.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of a fellowship in Endocrinology.
  • Current licensure to practice in the District of Columbia.
  • Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine and/or the American Board of Endocrinology.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Possession of a current CDS and DEA number.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position entails routine physical activity, including walking, standing, and light lifting. The work environment is generally safe and comfortable, adhering to standard safety protocols typical of healthcare settings.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The role requires balancing the diverse needs of various stakeholders on a daily basis. All medical services provided must align with established community standards of care. Evidence of a recent health assessment, including PPD and/or chest x-ray results, is required.
