Position Overview:
  • Renal care technicians are healthcare professionals skilled in managing dialysis equipment.
  • Their key responsibilities involve overseeing patients during dialysis sessions, ensuring the machine's operation is safe and effective, and modifying fluid extraction rates as necessary.
  • Reports directly to the Unit Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate under the direct guidance of a Registered Nurse.
  • Measure patient weight and monitor vital signs before, during, and after dialysis treatment.
  • Prepare dialysis machines for patient therapy and dismantle them post-treatment in accordance with company protocols.
  • Adhere to established safety and infection control guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide catheter care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Perform cannulation effectively as per established protocols and under nurse supervision.
  • Gather information for the charge nurse during patient assessments and evaluations.
  • Collect pre- and post-dialysis blood samples.
  • Process blood samples for temporary cold storage.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area.
  • Conduct monthly maintenance on drainage systems.
  • Collect water samples for necessary testing.
  • Diagnose and resolve machine issues as they arise.
  • Document vital signs and machine pressures following established protocols.
  • Treat patients and their families with dignity and respect.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of a training program approved by the medical director and governing body, focusing on the operation of kidney dialysis machines, direct patient care, and communication skills, including sensitivity training for challenging patients.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience as a Dialysis Technician is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
