The Perioperative Registered Nurse provides high-quality patient care in the perioperative services, utilizing the nursing process and medical plan of care. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures and patient management.
Key Responsibilities- Manage patient admission processes to the preoperative department
- Assess patient health status and ensure accurate identification wristband
- Verify operative and informed consents
- Determine surgeon and procedure
- Record vital statistics and ensure readiness for surgical procedure
- Initiate IVs and inform patients about the procedure and attending medical staff
- Assess patients' condition after surgery
- Ensure vital signs are within normal range
- Log findings in patients' files
- Answer patients' questions and ensure comfort
- Monitor IVs and develop individualized care plans
- Ensure nursing activities align with patient care plans
- Monitor for condition changes and report to the doctor
- Initiate patient education programs
- Determine readiness for patient movement to rooms
- Perform intervention duties in post-operative emergencies
- Record sedation levels and body temperature
- Manage blood and fluid transfusions and draw specimens
- Ensure post-operative space is clean and sanitized
- Change bandages and dress surgical wounds
To be successful in this role, you must be a Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in the state. A graduate of an accredited school of nursing and at least 2-5 years of experience in PreOp/PACU or Critical Care are required. Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is strongly preferred. Current BLS, ALS, and PALS certifications are also necessary.
