Position Title: Managing Optometrist
FLSA Classification: Hourly; Non-Exempt
Reports To: CEO
Role Overview:
Deliver exceptional patient care through accurate diagnosis and treatment of eye-related conditions and disorders. Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, identify issues or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and administer treatment as necessary. Prescribe therapeutic medications for specific ocular conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are deemed essential for this role due to their significance in fulfilling the job's purpose, potential consequences of non-performance, limited personnel capable of performing these tasks, or the specialized skills required.
- Prescribe therapeutic medications, low vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, spectacles, and contact lenses.
- Advise patients on both surgical and non-surgical solutions tailored to their visual requirements based on their professional and personal lifestyles.
- Identify patients' eyewear needs and recommend products that enhance their vision and safeguard their ocular health.
- Conduct vision services, including thorough eye examinations.
- Treat refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
- Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses as needed.
- Provide low vision aids and vision therapy services.
- Diagnose ocular conditions including glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and conjunctivitis.
- Prescribe medications for specific eye conditions in accordance with state regulations.
- Participate in pre-operative and post-operative care for patients requiring surgical intervention.
- Communicate effectively with patients to gather comprehensive case histories.
- Offer guidance and reassurance to patients regarding vision-related concerns.
- Draft referral communications to other healthcare providers.
- Collaborate with other medical professionals as necessary to share the care of patients with chronic eye conditions.
- Facilitate the transition of patients to the optical department to relay prescription information to the Optician or eyewear consultant.
- Achieve sales objectives related to the sale of spectacles and contact lenses.
Skills and Education Requirements:
- Strong business acumen, self-discipline, and the ability to interact tactfully with patients.
- Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of the National Board examination along with a National, Regional, or State clinical examination.
