Key Responsibilities
As a Biologist, your duties will include:

- Conducting biological research and support tasks across various scientific and public health domains related to numerous biological agents.

- Employing diverse methodologies to swiftly identify and characterize biological and/or other agents responsible for various diseases.

- Engaging in experimental investigations that require analyzing and evaluating complex problems and scenarios within the scientific realm.

- Compiling and presenting both written and oral reports to a range of audiences in both informal and formal contexts.

- Drafting comprehensive reports on scientific inquiries, studies, and projects.


Employment Conditions
Due to the CDC's initiative to enhance processes through Shared Certificates, some requirements may vary:

- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.

- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.

- Candidates may undergo a Background/Security Investigation.

- A one-year probationary period may be necessary.

- This position may be governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

- Time in grade (TIG) must be fulfilled within 30 days of the announcement's closing date.

- This role may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements as per the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.

- If selected, you may need to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) to assess any potential conflicts of interest.

- Adherence to a Drug-Free Federal Workplace is required, and the position may necessitate drug testing.


Qualifications
All qualifications must be satisfied by the closing date of the announcement.

Basic Qualifications:

- A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related fields pertinent to the position.

- Alternatively, a combination of education and experience that includes coursework equivalent to a major in the aforementioned fields, along with relevant experience or additional education.


Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which includes:

- Detecting, culturing, identifying, and cultivating biological agents and performing laboratory science work related to human or animal health relevant to public health.

- Experience can encompass both paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations.

- Volunteer experience is valuable and contributes to the competencies, knowledge, and skills applicable to paid employment.

Documentation of educational qualifications is required for positions with educational prerequisites, or if qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience.


Additional Information
This position is designated as telework eligible, which may include remote work or flexible scheduling options.
