Biosecurity and Food Safety Compliance Manager

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Leading Biosecurity Officer - Food Safety Specialist. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the delivery of regulatory services related to the implementation of Primary Production and Processing Standards for horticulture producers.
Key Responsibilities- Initiate and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to gain cooperation and trust in the Primary Production and Processing Standards and with the Department as the Victorian regulator.
- Guide horticulture businesses into the regulatory environment by offering information and advice on compliance with the Standards, using technical knowledge relating to horticulture and/or primary production food safety to assess the effectiveness of management controls.
- Provide authoritative information and advice on food safety risk assessment and management, and verification requirements.
- Assist in confirming that existing food safety arrangements meet the requirements of the Standards.
- Monitor regulated horticulture entities ensuring compliance with the Standards, including conducting audits, and leading investigations into breaches of regulations made under the Food Act 1984.
- Respond to biosecurity incidents and other agricultural emergencies and recovery operations as required.
- Tertiary degree in Agricultural Science, Science, or an equivalent science qualification.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in horticulture and/or primary production and processing food safety.
- Demonstrated experience in an auditing regulatory environment.
- Current Drivers Licence for a motor vehicle.
This is an ongoing position with hybrid work arrangements available. The work location is Attwood, with opportunities for flexible working arrangements.
