Highway Maintenance Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Highway Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the State of South Carolina. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our highway infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Operate specialized equipment, including snooper trucks and boom trucks, to perform bridge maintenance and repairs.
- Perform skilled labor tasks, such as concrete spall repair, bridge joint repairs, and pile repairs.
- Assist in the operation of levels, laser levels, and grade rods to ensure accurate construction and maintenance projects.
- Operate heavy equipment, including backhoes and excavators, to perform various tasks.
- Work in a team environment to ensure the safe and efficient completion of projects.
- Two (2) years of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position.
- Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The State of South Carolina offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, retirement and savings plan options, and paid vacation and sick leave. Additionally, eligible employees may participate in the South Carolina Deferred Compensation Program and receive tuition assistance.
Working ConditionsThis position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to inclement weather and hazardous conditions. The physical demands of the job include bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
