Position Overview

The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in the microstructural properties, analytical methodologies, and consensus standards utilized for assessing concrete, concrete aggregates, and cement-based materials. A thorough understanding of the prevalent deterioration mechanisms affecting cementitious material composites under various environmental conditions is essential. Proficiency in operating stereo-optical microscopes, polarized light microscopes, and scanning electron microscopes (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) is required. Strong communication skills, a keen intellectual curiosity, problem-solving capabilities, and a robust desire to learn, develop, and mentor others are crucial for this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough investigations of concrete and aggregates in accordance with ASTM standards and prepare detailed reports of findings.
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Develop an understanding of project-related risks and be proactive in identifying potential issues to safeguard the organization.
  • Champion safety initiatives within the team, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and fostering a secure work environment.
  • Encourage ongoing quality assessment and enhancement on projects, ensuring compliance with established quality standards.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Physical Science, or Civil Engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the composition and structure of concrete materials at both microscopic and macroscopic levels, with the ability to recognize common deterioration mechanisms.
  • Solid understanding of factors influencing the durability of cementitious material systems and the ability to identify these factors.
  • Familiarity with the performance characteristics of concrete materials and how they are influenced by microscopic features is advantageous.
  • Flexibility to adapt work schedules as needed to meet project demands.
  • A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
