Job Title: Part-Time Occupational Health Nurse

UPMC Health Plan is seeking a part-time Occupational Health Nurse to join its Employee Health Assistance Team. This role will work approximately 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility in the schedule. The position is based at UPMC Presbyterian and does not require weekends or holidays.

Job Summary:

The Occupational Health Nurse will provide direct patient intervention and provision of care for staff members of the UPMC Health System. This includes pre-placement evaluations, medical surveillance programs, work injuries associated with bloodborne pathogens, infectious disease exposures, and other employee health-related interventions.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the coordination of medical surveillance programs, including TB skin testing programs, respiratory protection programs, and specific exposure-related testing and/or surveillance initiatives.
  • Assist with efforts and interventions to ensure regulatory compliance, including JCAHO, Department of Health, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Provide services such as obtaining vital signs, reviewing medication history, assisting providers with medical treatments, using telehealth equipment, and engaging staff regarding lifestyle, condition management programs, health promotion activities, and other available services.
  • Support quality improvement, cost containment, and customer service-oriented initiatives of the organization.
  • Orchestrate complete and appropriate interventions, treatment, and follow-up care for staff infectious disease exposures and/or Bloodborne Pathogen exposures.
  • Act as a resource for client employees and coordinate employee health efforts with various departments as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all medical information and document interventions and treatment in the appropriate database/medical record system.
  • Support a proactive, multidisciplinary team approach directed toward prevention, education, and health promotion.
  • Provide education to client employees enrolled in various lifestyle and condition management programs.
  • Coordinate pre-placement evaluations on new hires, including reviewing questionnaires and coordinating any clinical laboratory services performed.
  • Perform phlebotomy, substance abuse testing, and immunizations, and other medical testing.
  • Evaluate laboratory results and initiate appropriate interventions and/or notifications.
  • Uphold policies and programs of UPMC.
  • Collaborate with physicians or other advanced practice providers and other nurses to arrange for further medical treatment when needed.
  • Input data and tests, including all services provided, into the employee health software database program for coordination and tracking.
  • Coordinate services rendered to appropriate departments for OSHA reporting and documentation.
  • Provide education and counseling to staff throughout the evaluation and treatment process.
  • Establish supportive relationships with client employees.
Requirements:
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Act 34.
